Bangladesh, to the east of India on the Bay of Bengal, is a South Asian country marked by lush greenery and many waterways. Its Padma (Ganges), Meghna and Jamuna rivers create fertile plains, and travel by boat is common. On the southern coast, the Sundarbans, an enormous mangrove forest shared with Eastern India, is home to the royal Bengal tiger.
Languages: The official language of Bangladesh is Bengali, which is spoken by the majority of the population. Bengali is used in government, education, and the media, and it is the language of instruction in schools. In addition to Bengali, many people in Bangladesh also speak English, particularly in business and education. Finally, there are also a number of regional languages and dialects spoken in Bangladesh, including Chittagonian, Sylheti, and Bihari, among others.
